It is the correction of congenital or acquired deformities of the ear. Ear deformities which can cause significant psychological and social problems in children; because ear size reaches normal adult size between the ages of 4 and 6, they are operated on after this age.
In order to make it easier for social adjustment it is better to straighten the ear before school starts. The most common malformation is the increase of the angle of the ear to the head which is called flap-eared. Ear Pinning surgery is performed with a small incision behind the ear. The distorted shapes of the ear cartilages are fixed with permanent pins. The surgery can be performed with general anesthesia or sedation + local anesthesia. It takes around 1-1.5 hours to complete.
You may need to stay in hospital for 1 day. Recovery time is around 1-2 weeks. It is then recommended to keep the ears close to the head for 2-3 weeks with a small bandage.
